Professional Background
- What inspired you to join the junk removal industry?
I started mowing lawns and working in construction when I was 12. After trying several different services such as landscaping, construction, pressure washing, demo, painting, gutter cleaning, and more, I decided to go with junk removal because it was simple and scalable. Additionally, I was inspired by 1-800-GOT-JUNK because they had already expanded throughout the country doing junk removal. I thought, if they could do it, so could I. - Can you share a bit about your career journey leading up to becoming a brand president?
I started doing junk removal when I was 17 and grew Joseph’s Junk Removal for five years before selling it to Allied Junk Partners in early 2024. I’ve always been an entrepreneur and worked for myself. - What is your favorite part of working in the junk removal business?
My favorite part is the people. Leading teams and watching them grow is a joy. Additionally, I love building and creating. Building a company is like Legos in many ways to me—one block at a time until it becomes a beautiful masterpiece. It goes through many revisions along the way. - What makes your company unique compared to others in the industry?
We hire incredible, stunning people. - How do you ensure the company’s core values are reflected in daily operations?
I set the example for living out our core values, and each person has a mentor who holds them accountable. - What role does customer satisfaction play in your company’s success?
Huge! If our customers aren’t happy, we don’t exist.
Challenges and Successes
- What has been the biggest challenge you’ve faced in your role, and how did you overcome it?
Almost going bankrupt. We hired better people and got really in tune with the key metrics of the business. - Can you share a significant milestone or achievement during your time as brand president?
Merging the Contact Centers.
Personal Insights
- What drives you personally and professionally?
To do something extraordinary and rare, to provide for my family, and to see others live out their dreams. - What’s the best advice you’ve ever received in your career?
Use the acronym T.A.I.L.W.O.P., which stands for “The Answer Is Located Within Our People.” In other words, spend time on the front lines of the business, wherever that is. Many of the C-suite’s questions are solved just by listening attentively on the front lines. - How do you balance the demands of your role with personal life?
It’s hard, but my biggest tool is my Roles and Goals sheet. It organizes my top priorities and gives me a process for making decisions when I have competing priorities. - What do you enjoy doing in your free time?
Spending time with my family, watching football, hunting, and working some more.
Looking Ahead
- What are your goals for the company over the next 5–10 years?
Reach $250M in annual revenue and have a branch in 42 of the top MSAs in the U.S. - How do you see the junk removal industry evolving, and how is your company preparing for that future?
The focus of the customer is increasingly on all-inclusive value (price, speed, and quality), not just speed and quality. This shift forces junk removal companies to provide a genuinely competitive service, which I think is excellent. Additionally, the expectations of the customer and challenging market conditions are forcing many “chuck-in-a-truck” guys out of business, which benefits the industry overall. Moreover, I see residential customers preferring “professional local companies” over side-hustlers or franchise options.
Fun and Relatable
- If you could describe your leadership in one word, what would it be? Others-focused.
- What’s one thing most people don’t know about you? I almost failed high school.
- Do you have a favorite story or memory from your time in the industry? Yes! Going to the dump at 5 a.m. on school mornings.
